West Virginians Dedicate Memorial to UBB Miners

Families of the 29 miners who died in the worst coal mine accident in the U.S. in nearly 40 years dedicated a memorial in the men’s honor Friday in West Virginia.

The memorial features a 48-foot long black granite monument with life-size reverse silhouettes of each of the miners who died at the Upper Big Branch-South (UBB) Mine in an explosion on April 5, 2010. The base was inscribed with the Gospel passage, "Come to me, all you who labor, and I will give you rest."

The miners’ names were engraved on the back along with panels that describe the state’s coal heritage.
