UBB Superintendent’s Sentencing Postponed
The prosecutor investigating the Upper Big Branch-South (UBB) Mine tragedy has asked that sentencing of a cooperating official be postponed.
Former UBB superintendent Gary May had been scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 9, but a district court judge has granted the prosecutor’s request for a delay. The new date is Oct. 4. According to the Associated Press, Steven Ruby, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia, had asked for the delay because investigators need more time to fully develop the cooperation May is giving them.
