Random Safety Inspections Said to Aid Employers

Employers in California randomly selected for safety inspections by the state experienced a decline of nearly 10% in injury rates and a reduction of more than 25% in injury cost, according to research published this month.

“These results do not support the hypothesis that OSHA regulations and inspections on average have little value in improving health and safety,” concluded three researchers from business schools at Harvard and the University of California, Berkeley, and the School of Economics at Boston University.
