Contract Worker Killed at Arizona Copper Mine

A contract employee working at an open pit copper mine construction site in Arizona died in a fall there Saturday.

In its preliminary report, MSHA identified the victim as Jon-Pierre Vanoss, 34, a laborer for Tetra Tech Construction, Inc.  The victim fell 30 feet at BHP Copper, Inc.’s Pinto Valley Operations in Gila County and was found by co-workers, MSHA said.  According to the Agency, Vanoss was performing fire watch duties for burning and welding that were being conducted at a discharge chute at the time of the 2:40 p.m. accident.
