Congress Ponders Funding for Mine Research Facility

Some members of Congress seem to have gotten the message that a large-scale surface and underground laboratory is essential for doing meaningful mine safety and health research. 

Draft language in the relevant fiscal year (FY) 2013 appropriations bill under consideration in the House would set aside $50 million over the next five years for such a facility.  That appears to be in addition to some $13 million that reportedly has already been set aside in the FY 2010 budget.
